Growth of Si whiskers on Au/Si(1 1 1) substrate by gas source molecular beam epitaxy (MBE)

The vapor—liquid—solid growth of Si whiskers from disilane has been studied in a gas source MBE system. The wire-like Si crystals are grown on Si(1 1 1) substrates in a temperature range of 600—800°C, a disilane pressure between 1]10~4 and 1]10~7 Torr, and using Au as a growth-promoting agent. The morphology of the Si whiskers is investigated. It is found that the growth rate of the vertical wi...

DIELECTRIC FUNCTION OF AlN GROWN ON Si (111) BY MBE

We measured the ellipsometric response from 0.7-5.4 eV of c-axis oriented AlN on Si (111) grown by molecular beam epitaxy. We determine the film thicknesses and find that for our AlN the refractive index is about 5-10% lower than in bulk AlN single crystals. Most likely, this discrepancy is due to a low film density (compared to bulk AlN), based on measurements using Rutherford backscattering. ...

MBE Growth of AlN Nanowires on Si Substrates by Aluminizing Nucleation

By introducing an aluminization process to achieve nucleation of nanowires (NWs), spontaneous growth of AlN NWs on Si substrates has been realized by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. The AlN NWs are grown from the nuclei formed by the aluminization process, and the NW density and diameter can be controlled by the aluminization parameters. The influence of growth conditions on the morphol...

ZnO growth on Si with low-temperature ZnO buffer layers by ECR-assisted MBE

High-quality ZnO films were grown on Si(1 0 0) substrates with low-temperature (LT) ZnO buffer layers by an electron cyclotron resonance (ECR)-assisted molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE). In order to investigate the optimized buffer layer temperature, ZnO buffer layers of about 1.1 mm were grown at different growth temperatures of 350, 450 and 550 1C, followed by identical high-temperature (HT) ZnO f...

ELECTRIC CURRENT Effect of Electric Currents on Cells and Tissues

In the presence ol electrical currents, the body behaves like an electrochemical system. On the other hand, due to anatomical reasons such as the presence of membranes, it generates potential differences between different parts of the body. Therefore, when one considers the possibility of electrical currents acting upon the body, the end result will be the integration of the intrinsic currents ...
